Easter Craft: Wash Cloth Bunnies!!

Holidays have been coming and going faster each year.  I want to decorate everything and cook a lot of different meals and do crafts and activities with my kids.  I have lists upon lists and it gets overwhelming so in the end nothing gets done!  It's so frustrating!!  So for Easter this year (its in less than a week!!  Are you ready??)  I decided that instead of getting caught up in all the parties and crafts and millions of things on pinterest to do, I would simplify my list and in the end get more done..  I hope that makes sense.

First what I did was sit down and decide what I wanted to focus on and what the holiday is really about.  Then I set up a few FHE lessons for my family.  My husband and I decided on a theme for our baskets this year (sports)
All that is left after those 3 things is to decide on Food... and what traditions I want to do with my family.
Food is simple- traditional ham dinner, egg sandwiches for breakfast, and lots of candy....etc

But the traditions I wanted to do with my family were hard for me to decide on...  my parents always did so many fun things for us on holidays but there are also so many new things to do.  I didn't want to get overwhelmed at every holiday but I wanted something for my young children to look forward to and remember every year.
Going to the Easter egg hunt is a given and so is coloring eggs and in my husbands family if you are out camping you do and egg roll.  After that I couldn't decide.
But then....  I found this little guy.

This sad little bunny is from my childhood.  It's at least 20 years old, maybe more.
I remember during Conference weekend  we usually had aunts and uncles and cousins (lots of them) come a visit.  When my Aunt Donna would come, my Mom and my Aunt would set up this craft for all the kids to do.  It was my favorite Easter Craft and I can't believe I almost forgot about it.
Because it is such a fond memory of mine I decided this is going to make my Easter Tradition list.

First you will need.
-wash cloth
-rubber band
-googly eyes
-pom poms (I got big and little sizes but 2 of the same size works as well)
-glue gun
-and ribbon(for girls)

Start by laying your wash cloth down with the underside up.

fold it in half at the diagonal.

Then start to roll from the point-up

So it looks like this...

Then fold in half.

This is what the bunny's tummy will look like.

And this is what the bunny's back looks like.

Lay the bunny on its tummy and fold his "head" and ears onto his back.

Then with your rubber band, secure around his head.

Fluff up the bunny's ears a bit

And it will look like this--

Hot glue some googly eyes on it.

Then the tail... (the bigger of the pom pom if you have two different sizes.)

Then glue the smaller pom pom for the nose..

If it's a girl bunny you can make a tiny bow out of your ribbon and glue that on as well...

And there you have it!  Boy and girl bunnies.. for a simple, memorable tradition.

...The End...

Almond Joy Truffles

Almond Joy Truffles

1/8 tsp salt
1 c light corn syrup
1/3 c water
2/3 c sugar
1 (14 oz) pkg coconut flakes
1 1/2 TBSP flour
Almonds

Combine salt, syrup, water and sugar.  Cook to a soft ball stage.  Stir only until sugar is dissolved.

Combine coconut and flour in a large bowl.  Pour syrup over coconut mix and spread onto a buttered cookie sheet. Let it sit till cool enough to handle.  Take about 1 TBSP of mixture and roll around an almond.  Let set on a cookie sheet covered with a piece of wax paper.  Let sit till cool.  (Do not refrigerate, as they become too hard to bite into).  Dip in chocolate and garnish with  an almond (I used almond slices) and serve.

I've been going through some very old cookbooks lately.  This is just one of the recipes from an old family cookbook.  Love looking through the archives!!

Egg Salad Toast

Happy Easter everyone!!!  Hope you are having a wonderful day.  At my house Easter is the one (and only) time of year that we have hard boiled eggs.  Yeah, you read that right.  We just don't eat them on a daily basis.  So it's the same for me every year, open up the cookbook to figure out how to boil the eggs...I know you think I'm kidding.  I mean seriously the lady that cooks and bakes and considers the kitchen her favorite room in the house and she still has to look up a recipe...I know, I know pretty sad but true....on the other hand I know exactly how we like to eat our hard boiled eggs.  At our house we eat our eggs on toast.  Egg Salad Toast to be exact.  How do you eat your hard boiled eggs?.....

Egg Salad Toast

2 hard boiled eggs, peeled and rinsed (I  like to peel mine then rinse with cold water, just to be sure I don't get any little pieces of shell in my salad)
1/3 c miracle whip
salt & pepper to taste
3 pieces of toast

First peel and rinse your eggs.  (I like to rinse my eggs with cold water after they are peeled just to be sure I don't get any little pieces of shell in my salad...yuck).  Then put your eggs in a bowl and mash them with a fork. Add your miracle whip till well blended.  Then spread on toast and top with salt & pepper to taste.

It's a simple recipe, but it's easy and just the way we like it.  We eat egg salad toast for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Love it!!!

Hard Boiled Eggs

4 eggs
Ice Cold Water

Place eggs in a single layer in a medium saucepan.  Add enough cold water to come 1 inch above the eggs.  Bring to a boil on high heat.  Reduce heat to low/simmering.  Cover and cook for 15 minutes: drain.  Run cool water over the eggs.  Drain.  Cool completely before peeling.

Sometimes  hard-boiled eggs have an (harmless) greenish ring around the yolk.  To reduce the chances of this happening, make sure you start out with ice cold water over your eggs.

Marshmallow Easter Eggs

Marshmallow Easter Eggs
1 pkg. knox gelatin
1 3oz box jellos (any flavor)
1 c. sugar
1 c. boiling water

Fill two cake pans 3/4 full of flour, shake pans to level off flour. Take a plastic egg and press into the flour to make half an egg impression. Make 12 impressions. Set aside.

Mix the first three ingredients together in a bowl. Add the boiling water and stir until the jello is dissolved. Then mix on high with hand mixer for 10 minutes, so the mixture is frothy.

Pour the blended mixture into the impressions. To set the eggs, place them in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Then you can eat the eggs plain, or dipped in chocolate.

I made this recipe one time way back when I was a teenager. This week while I was digging through old recipes trying to find something different for dinner I ran across this recipe and thought it would be fun. The kids had a great time making and decorating these. You could also make these for valentines day in a heart shape. Be creative.
