Homemade Oreo's

Cookies:
2 pkgs cake mix (chocolate or strawberry)
4 eggs
1 1/2 c shortening

Filling:
1 (8oz) pkg cream cheese
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp vanilla
3 2/3 c. powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350. Mix cake mix, eggs and shortening well and roll into balls, place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Let cool.

Let cream cheese reach room temperature before mixing all ingredients. More or less powdered sugar can be added depending on thickness of frosting.

Put frosting on inside of cookie #1, press cookie #2 on top of cookie #1 to form a sandwich.

Chill before serving.

I got this recipe from a friend that I used to work with, who got it from her mother in law. We have loved this recipe. It makes quite a few cookies and is really great for large groups.
