Tootsie Fruit Rolls

Let's be honest, sometimes recipes just don't work out.  I have a couple of them that I have tried and tried and tried to make and they fail every time.  I can blame it on humidity in the air, a cloudy day, the high altitude and probably a million other things.  Lately, I have been trying to make a great salt water taffy.  I have tried lots of different recipes, but have yet to find one that is just right.  Besides, good taffy takes forever to make and after a very long 2-3 hours of pulling taffy, it's just not worth the hassle.

This past weekend I wanted so badly to make taffy, and yet I just couldn't bring myself to do it.  Then I had a brilliant idea.  Remember when we made tootsie rolls?  Easy!!!!  You can seriously throw them together in 30 minutes.  So I adjusted the recipe a little bit and Tada!!!!  Success!!!  Much easier and just as good as taffy. Plus you can make them whatever flavor you want.  They are amazing!!

Tootsie Fruit Rolls
2 TBSP Butter
1 1/2 - 2 tsp flavoring (whatever kind you want)
1/2 c clear corn syrup
3 c powdered sugar
3/4 c powdered milk
3 squares white bakers chocolate (melted)
10 drops food coloring (optional)

Put all ingredients in a food processor and blend till well mixed.  Mixture will be crumbly, knead until well blended and smooth.  Roll into long rolls, then cut into individual pieces.  Wrap in waxed paper.

We made orange and raspberry flavored candy this time.  They both turned out great.  One thing to keep in mind is how strong of a flavor you want.  For the orange ones I only used 1 tsp of flavor since it was so strong, but the raspberry needed 2 tsp.
