Sweet & Spicy Mustard
Sweet & Spicy Mustard
1 1/4 C flour
1 1/2 C sugar
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 tsp tumeric
1 1/3 C dry mustard
2 C cider vinegar
1 C water
1 cube butter (sliced)
2-3 TBSP clear corn syrup
In a bowl combine flour, sugar, salt, tumeric, and mustard - making sure to sift the mustard and tumeric. Set aside. In a pot on the stove bring vinegar and water to a rolling boil, then pour over dry ingredients in a bowl, add sliced butter and corn syrup and beat until butter is melted and mixture is smooth.
Pour into (7) prepared half-pint size jars, put lids on and let sit overnight. They will seal themselves.
This is my Mom's recipe. It's her "neighbor gift" every year. She first got the recipe several years ago from one of her neighbors. Every year she makes a few more jars. This year she told me she was going to try something different as neighbor gifts but she had so many people tell her how excited they were for their jar of mustard that she just had to make it again. She made 75 jars. Now just for reference each batch makes about 6 1/2 jars. So you do the math. Anyway this mustard is so good. We love it on a turkey sandwich. Hope you all enjoy!
